What was your life like before your Einstein procedure?
I was pushing 400 pounds when I started this journey. Weight has always been a huge issue in my life. I was always the “big girl” in the class. I was always very timid about going out. There are little things that, people without weight issues, that’s just normal. People with weight issues, it’s anxiety. You tend to then not do those things; you isolate yourself, because you don’t want to have to put yourself in those positions.
The day that I realized that I needed to do something, I was watching all these runners go by and I was struggling with just walking up a hill. I realized there was something significantly wrong. My primary doctor said that I was pre-hypertensive. Before he turned 60, my father had triple-bypass, a couple of heart attacks. His father had 8 or 9.
I was miserable. Absolutely miserable. I don’t want my daughter to ever have to see me in the state that I had to see my father in. I wanted to be a good role model for my daughter, and I didn’t want to have weight have that control over my life any longer.
What has your life been like since your Einstein procedure?
I have lost close to 175 pounds. When people haven’t seen me in a while, to see their jaw drop, it’s the best thing. It’s just a constant reminder of why you work out, you make the right choices. I’m so much more confident in myself. I engage more, not only with my family life; it’s helped me with business.
It’s the best feeling when your daughter comes up to you and says “Look Mom, I can fit my arms around you now.” To have your child say “I’m so proud of you,” it’s the best feeling in the world. She sees her mom more energetic. She sees her mom more active. She sees her mom more engaged.
I’m proud of myself. Weight no longer controls my life. I took control of my weight. I’m a happy, fun-loving person who is completely happy with the person that I am today.
Do you have any advice for people considering a procedure?
When you’re not feeling good about yourself, you don’t want to do anything. I reached out to Einstein Bariatrics to help me get to the goals that I wanted to set for the rest of my life. I needed something that would kickstart me where I could lose the weight quickly so that I could feel better about myself.
Einstein Bariatrics didn’t just treat me as a patient; they treated me as a person. They don’t want to just do the procedure. They want you to succeed. They want you to be confident that you can go through this process. Yes, you can make this decision. Yes, you can do this. But they’re with you 100 percent the entire time.
